Jazz Vocal Masterclass with Francesca Confortini  "Vocal Colours in Jazz Singing"

Saturday 14th October - 11AM until 4PM with 1 hour lunch break

Session 1

11AM - 1PM

Francesca will start the morning session revealing some of her most useful warm up techniques as she guides you through a group warm up. Following the warm up the main topic for the morning session will be on her approach to exploring the different sound qualities used in jazz singing, taking inspiration from great artists and applying concepts to everyone's individual instruments.

The students will start to investigate the concept of awareness of one's instrument, and to start looking at vocal technique associating it to different sound worlds that can be safely created to convey a variety of emotional contents and atmospheres when singing jazz music.

Session 2

1PM - 4PM

Every participant will have prepared a jazz standard from a short list sent out in advance.

In this practical session, attendees will get feedback and guidance on vocal technique. You'll receive pro tips and advice on improving as a jazz singer, from both a technical and a performative perspective.

The aim of this part of the workshop is to apply the concepts of awareness and vocal colours to the selected pieces, in order for the songs to be performed in a more personalised and intimate way.

Some of what you'll cover...

  • Vocal Warm Up Techniques

  • "Vocal Colours" Exploration
